Fuel Efficiency Policy

The expert critics have come in with a good review for the tax incentives in today's Budget, but "some say the policy would not be complete without adding fees or penalties to discourage consumers from buying gas-guzzling vehicles."

Those critics though, must have an urban bias. Some people legitimately need to drive trucks or own SUVs to haul things. It's one thing to discourage suburbanites from driving tanks around to the mall. It's another to stop people who just need to get into town.

With the fuel prices these days, the inherent penalties on big cars are enough.
