The Ottawa Citizen asks whether readers agree with a Department of Canadian Heritage assessment that the Battle of Vimy Ridge is one of the five defining moments of Canadian history. The paper asks if we agree.
Given our modern bias, this is almost impossible to say. I have a feeling that readers won't rank Vimy in the top five. People tend to believe that things in their lifetime are more important than they really are.
As for me, I just might defer to the historians here though I suspect some pre-1867 events are more significant.
