Sometimes I wonder if Human Rights Commissions is a kind of imperialism. The West imposing its values on the East.
Otherwise, rights would be universal (not just in the signed a UN treaty sense). In that case, protecting the rights would be a universal endeavour too (not just in the condemn from UN headquarters sense).
I say these things because sometimes we expect foreign cultures to live up to our standards--Afghanistan. But then sometimes nobody cares--like North Korea, Syria, or China. Why don't activists get upset about those countries too?
Compared to the other abuses happening in the world, the Afghan prisoner incident is small.
Let's have more coverage about the truly serious abuses out there.
